Reef Illuminations T5 with LED Moonlight Tubes

Introduced at MACNA, the Reef Illuminations fixtures created quite a buzz, in part because of the unique LED supplemental lighting system.   We received so many inquires on the LED Moonlight Tubes that we have decided to make them available as a retrofit product.

The LED Moonlight Tubes tubes have the same look of a standard T5 tube, but they are powered by a low voltage transformer, not a fluorescent ballast.  The T5 form provides better spread of the light over the entire aquarium.  Encasing the LED’s inside a T5-style tube protects them and their circuit boards from the harsh, salty, humid environment that is your normal saltwater aquarium.  The IceCap LunarLites have an aluminum heat sink on the back side of the tube to dissipate what little heat they generate.

LED Moonlight Tubes are highly efficient and very reliable but we know the reason you’ll want them is what they will do to the appearance of the corals.  They are designed to excite the green fluorescing proteins in corals.  They particularly bring out yellows, oranges, and greens.  If you think your corals look good under actinics, you haven’t seen anything yet!  Mushrooms, zoanthids, Ricordea, and most any fleshly large polyp stony corals look amazing under the LED’s.

The LED Moonlight Tubes retrofits ship with mounting clips to secure the LED Tubes to a canopy, commercial hood or existing fixture.  The weight should not be an issue because the 2-foot unit is only 4 oz.   Power connection to the LunarLite is a power tail with a quick connect to a low voltage power supply, no hand wiring required.

The body of the fixtures are a very substantial, lightly textured Aluminum. Reef Illuminations fixtures are available today in Silver with Black fixtures early in 2010. Black or Silver Reef Illuminations will stand out from the crowd, and with their chemical coating they will remain shinny and corrosion free for years and years.

Available as T5 or T5/Metal Halide combo both configurations include our exclusive LunarLite Blue LED Tubes providing both “after hours” moonlight effect and additional florescence for your corals.

LunarLite-LEDs are the same size and shape as T5 lamps and contain 75 individual LED emitters and has an integrated aluminum heat sync to assure longevity. The shape of the LunarLite tubes washes your aquarium in 420 - 460nm blue light from end to end.

Reef Illuminations fixtures are designed to emulate specific environments

The health of a reef display is dependent on the correct amount and spectrum of light. The Reef Illuminations Metal Halide/T5 combo with its 2 metal halide lamps, 2 T5 fluorescent lamps, and 2 LED LunarLites tube arrays generates a lot of light. This fixture is best suited for deep aquariums or displays dominated by Acropora, Seriatopora, Stylophora, Porites, and other shallow water specimens.

The Reef Illuminations T5 fixture with its four T5 fluorescent lamps with 4 LED LunarLites tube arrays is best suited for shallow aquariums or deepwater corals such as Acanthastrea, Trachyphyllia, Scolymia, Cynarina, Fungia, Cycloseris, Blastomussa, etc. Don’t confuse lower light with lower quality light. Some fixtures don’t put out much light because of poor design. We’re putting out the right amount of good quality light for the right applications.
